KWPN stallion Unitair to USA
The KWPN stallion Unitair (Voltaire x G.Ramiro Z) has been sold to the USA where he will be used for hunter competition. Owner Daan van Geel explains: “Unitair was successful at 1.30m and had been to several international competitions. There is a great demand for hunters from the USA, so we started training him in that manner a while back. He picked up really well and now he has been to an individual in San Diego, where he will start on the hunter circuit.”
Unitair will no longer be available for breeding. He will be castrated to benefit his sport career.

Jumper stallion approved after 50 days
April 29, 2008
|
Today the stallion committee approved the four-year old jumper stallion Carambole (Cassini I x Concerto II). The stallion was consistently noted for his good jumping during his 50 days in Ermelo. The stallion committee remarked “The stallion has everything that we like to see in a jumper. A complete jumper that always jumps in the same manner, can come back well and can speed up in the air”.

Hackney stallion Makari Jetsetter accepted for harness horse breeding.
April 23, 2008
|
Two Hackney stallions were selected for a minimum 21-Day Test. The stallion committee felt that 21 days was sufficient for the stallion Makari Jetsetter, owned by J.W.A. van Dijk and Gebr. Van Manen). Makari Jetsetter was bred by Ron and Debbie Egan. He was born in Australia and came to Holland by way of the U.S.A.
Scores for Makari Jetsetter:
Self-carriage: 8½
Suspension: 8
Action of the foreleg: 7½
Use of the hindleg: 9
Enthusiasm: 9
Overall picture of a harness horse: 8½
The testing time of the other Hackney stallion, Morocco Field Marshall, was extended in order to amass more information.
Mid-way Evaluation
Eight stallions were presented for the mid-way evaluation, six were selected to go on and two were excused. The stallions Alfred (Talos x Fabricius) and Atent (Uromast x Harald) were sent home. After a disappointing 2007, the committee is now much more enthusiastic and hopes to be able to approve some nice stallions. They are extremely happy with the addition of Makari Jetsetter to the breeding program.
The stallions below will contine the test:
48 (851) (Ganges x Plain’s Superstion)
50 (874) (Patijn x Fabricius)
52 (878) (Patijn x Waterman)
53 (882) (Roy M x Fabricius)

Beezie Madden and Authentic Win $200,000 CN WorldWide Grand Prix
Wellington, FL—In a dramatic jump-off featuring the best show jumping athletes in the world, Beezie Madden of Cazenovia, NY, and Authentic claimed victory in the $200,000 CN WorldWide Grand Prix during week nine, the CSI****W CN WorldWide, of the CN Winter Equestrian Festival at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center.
Featuring the largest grand prix purse on offer during the 12-week CN Winter Equestrian Festival, the $200,000 CN WorldWide Grand Prix attracted the best horses and riders from North America and around the world. The event also acted as qualifier for the World Cup Final to be held next month in Gothenburg, Sweden.
A total of 53 horses entered the International Arena on Sunday afternoon to tackle the demanding course. Ten pairs jumped clear to advance to the jump-off.
The jump-off proved to be a horse race with the times getting faster and faster as the crowd cheered louder and louder. Lauren Hough of Wellington, FL, threw down the gauntlet as the first rider into the ring, turning in a clear round in a time of 37.82 seconds riding Casadora. Jeffery Welles and Armani were next to challenge but had eight faults while James Benedetto and Kannan's Gigi Z had four. Christine McCrea and Vegas also had eight faults before Canadian Olympian Mac Cone of King City, Ontario, guided Ole to a clear round in a time of 39.73 seconds, but it was not fast enough to take over the lead.
Olympic Team Gold medalist McLain Ward of Brewster, NY, gave it a shot with Sapphire and had the time of 35.86 seconds, but a fallen rail ended their chances of victory. Great Britain's Peter Charles then raced around the shortened jump-off course with his handy little bay, Murkas Rubert R, leaving all the rails in place and stopping the clock at 36.85 seconds to take over top spot. With that, the race was on. Kent Farrington of Wellington, FL, went hell bent for leather with the game chestnut gelding, Up Chiqui. The timers flashed 35.23 seconds, catapulting them to the top of the leaderboard.
Madden and Authentic were next up and did not disappoint. Despite an awkward approach to the final fence, a vertical set beside the in-gate, they still shaved a full second off of Farrington's seemingly unbeatable time, crossing the timers in 34.17 seconds.
Chris Kappler of Pittstown, NJ, was the final challenger riding VDL Oranta. They, too, were fast, but not fast enough. Their time of 36.33 seconds left them in third place with $26,000 in prize money while Madden took home the lion's share of $60,000 for owner Abigail Wexner. As the runner-up, Farrington collected $44,000 for his efforts.
Madden, currently ranked eight in the world, and Authentic were given a bye from the U.S. Equestrian Team's Selection Trials for the Olympic Games, held the last two weeks at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Having also won Thursday's $30,000 WEF Challenge Cup Round VIII, the pair is proving to be on track for the upcoming Olympic Games.

US Equestrian Federation receives an award from the KWPN in Wellington
March 12, 2008
|
Recently at the fifth Olympic trials in Wellington, KWPN Board member Paul Hendrix handed over the KWPN-award to David O’Connor, chairman of the USEF.
The KWPN thanks her leading position for jumpers in the WBFSH ranking for a big part to the American federation. Last year they selected in all their teams in the Samsung Nation Cups Series KWPN-horses. Also in the American team at the Pan American Games included three KWPN-horses. Besides the award to the USEF, was there also the presentation of the new international name of the KWPN: Royal Dutch Sporthorse.
The riders that competed in the teams last year, also received an award. The Dutch horses in the teams were: Authentic, Integrity, Judgement, Casadora, Anthem, Miss Independent, Olinda, Pavarotti, Vegas, Little Big Man and Obelix R.

Namelus R, Numero Uno and Indorado declared Keur
February 2008
|
The stallions Numero Uno, Namelus R, and Inddorado received their keur predicates in February for reasons described below.
A remarkably large number of Numero Uno offspring are currently breaking into international show jumping. Given the stallion’s jumping index of 146 and high reliability of 93%, his offspring competing at the national level are also excelling. Numero Uno offspring are often distinguished by their good jumper conformation. They have a nice forehand and frequently inherit their sire’s strong presence. In addition, they are noted for both their trot and canter, which are big, supple, powerful, and balanced. Numero Uno passes on his positive traits to both fillies and colts. Take, for example, his approved sons, such as Tygo, Unaniem, Van Gogh, Viento Uno W, Vincenzo, and Warrant. Numero Uno’s daughter, Willemijn became keur mare champion and the only horse to score 90 points in the IBOP test last year.
Indorado was a successful international show jumper with Jur Vrieling. The gray stallion has influenced breeding a great deal in past years. This year, he climbed in the jumping index to 141 with a high reliability of 94%. Many of his offspring are international show jumpers. Currently, the KWPN has record of 15 international Grand Prix jumpers and eight international 1.40/1.45m jumpers sired by Indorado. Among the best known are Oranta with Chris Kappler; Eurocommerce Milano and Eurocommerce Lanapoule with Gerco Schröder; and Olona with Cassio Rivetti. Breeding values for conformation show that Indorado produces offspring with very good rectangular shaped bodies. In addition, he passes on a big canter, and his offspring demonstrate abundant talent in free jumping. Furthermore, Indorado offspring, on average, are almost four centimeters taller than their sire. Indorado’s son, Radisson, is available for KWPN breeding.
Namelus R was bred by and is still owned by Stal Roelofs of Den Ham. The dam-line of this Concorde son is also that of Stal Roelofs and includes their much used sires Joost and Abgar xx. Namelus R’s oldest offspring are now nine years old. His index is 160 with 85% reliability. Breeding values for conformation show that Namelus R passes on good conformation. His offspring usually have nice rectangular shaped bodies. They are particularly noted for their powerful push in the canter. Furthermore, this stallion’s offspring generally demonstrate very good reflexes, use their bodies well, and show lots of scope. Namelus R’s first KWPN approved son is Tolan R. Of the 105 Namelus R offspring currently competing in show jumping, 19 are classified at levels Z or ZZ, or compete at the national level.

Cheryl Meisner’s Paganini is the city of Zwolle’s Best Stallion
February 12, 2008
|
Canadian rider Cheryl Meisner’s 11-year old stallion Paganini (Havidoff x Statuar) was named the Best Stallion of 2008 at Zwolle International this past weekend. Cheryl bought Paganini as a 7-year old from Bert Rutten. The pair has trained with Bert Rutten on and off since that time.
With 67.65%, Paganini and Cheryl did not have the best score in the freestyle but the one higher score was earned by the gelding Premier, who obviously did not qualify for the title. However, the five members of the jury agreed unanimously on the pair’s first place on all fronts.

KWPN stallion Lupicor is no more
January 16, 2008
|
Big loss for breeding and De Wiemselbach
Last Saturday night, the approved KWPN stallion Lupicor died as a result of colic. A big loss for breeding and also for stud farm De Wiemselbach.
Lupicor (Lux Z x Pilot x Cor de la Bryere) was born in 1995 in the south of Holland to the well-known Pilot daughter Jourdette S. At age two he was approved in Westfalen and there stood at stud before returning to de Wiemselbach in 2001. The talented Lux son competed successfully at national competitions and the KWPN stallion competition, after which he was approved by the KWPN. After his successful international sport career, Lupicor grew into a breeding stallion of world class.
Beside many successful offspring from his Westfalen days, Lupicor was also able to put his stamp on jumper breeding in Holland, siring many champions at foal keuringen as well as at mare- and stallion inspections. During the Central Mare Keuringen Lupicor was down as the sire of many star and keur mares. Mares that scored very high in free jumping with high points for the canter, reflexes and take-off.
Lupicor offspring in sport are regularly in the news. In 2007, stallion Wizzard van de Silverhoeve (Lupicor x Voltaire x Nimmerdor) won the finals of the KWPN/Stal Hendrix Competition, placed second during the National Jumping Championship for 4-Yr Old Jumpers and recently won the stallion competition in Hengelo. The 7 year olds Lady Luna, Lara Joy II en de 7 year old Lupicat won several international jumping competitions for young horses last year. The 8 year old Levito (ds Indorado) made his debut in international jumping last year.
Through the 2006 KWPN Stallion Show Jumping Champion L’Esprit (Lupicor x Landgraf I), the valuable Lupicor genes will still be available for breeding. There is still a limited quantity of good quality frozen Lupicor semen available.

Wamberto – Champion 100-Day Stallion Performance Test
November 16, 2007
|
The 100-Day Stallion Test held at Paxton Farms and co-hosted by the American Holsteiner Association and the International Sporthorse Registry, concluded on November 11, 2007
KWPN stallion Wamberto, champion of the 2006 KWPN Stallion Show, claimed the top spot with convincing scores. Shortly following his arrival to the US, Wamberto (Rousseau-Voltaire-Dutch Boy), owned by Harmony Sporthorses of Colorado and bred by L. Heida from the Netherlands, joined other stallions to participate in the Performance Test in Batavia, OH. Despite a 5-point age penalty, Wamberto was crowned the overall Champion with 158 points. His outstanding rideability and movement was represented in his overall dressage score of 168, and his athleticism showed in his jumping score of 145.
Wamberto earned 9s for his temperament, rideability, and willingness. He easily managed the free jumping phase, soaring over the highest fences, earning an 8 from the judges. Under guest dressage riders Wamberto demonstrated very positive rideability, performing counter canter, walk-canter-walk transitions and canter and trot lengthenings. Under guest jumping riders Wamberto proved his dexterity over the tight indoor course, producing clear flying changes and clear rounds over the highest course settings. With scores of 8 for the trot, 9 for the canter, and 8.67 for his cross country jumping ability, Wamberto clearly demonstrated his athletic ability.

Preferent stallion Flemmingh dead at 20
October 12, 2007
|
Flemmingh really went downhill over the last few weeks because of an old injury. Therefore VDL decided, in consultation with veterinarians, to euthanize the stallion. This is a great loss both for VDL Stud and for dressage breeders. Flemmingh was valuable to the breeding of dressage horses and has produced many keuring champions and sport horses.
Flemmingh daughters are proving themselves in the breeding arena.
Flemmingh offspring in general are proving themselves at both national and international levels, the most famous being Krack C and Lingh. A third one is Brenna Kucinski’s Regent, who won the gold medal at the Pan American Games this summer with Christopher Hickey.
Frozen semen will still be available for the 2008 breeding year.
